Recently, we were asked to build a skateable shoe box for Nike SB and eBay.
A 20 year story in the making, Nike SB and ebay paid tribute to the patriarch of Nike Skateboarding, Sandy Bodecker, with the launch of 10 Charity Dunk Lows benefitting the Bodecker Foundation. Each Special edition box came complete with 1 pair of the Tribute Dunk, an homage to the original Charity Dunk, 1 pair of the 2022 release eBay Dunk, a commemorative saw, and commemorative plaque. Plus, YOU CAN SKATE THE BOX!
We were presented with several different concepts of the box by our clients, some with a wedge feature and even fold out flatbars, but in the end we felt that a traditional shoe box look and feel would be the most authentic concept to pay tribute to the late Sandy Bodecker.
After submitting several renditions of 3D models, creating CNC files, and coordinating with companies for the vinyl stickers as well as a custom foam producer we got to work with, we were able to construct these extremely special and unique boxes.
Each of these super custom/commemorative skateable shoe boxes were auctioned off on eBay with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Bodecker Foundation, which fund a variety of programs aimed to empower creative youth to imagine and achieve their artistic, educational, and professional dreams.
Through the auction of these boxes, they were able to raise a total of $355,000!
As fans of Nike SB and Sandy Bodecker, this project was a huge honor for us to have been able to work and we were beyond stoked with how they turned out. Check out some of the photos taken by the legendary Atiba Jefferson (@atibaphoto) of the box and of one of the boxes being skated by Paul Rodriguez, Eric Koston, and Elissa Steamer.
